Retzer Nature Park is a small but beautiful park located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Retzer Nature Park was created by the Retz family of Waukesha. John and Florence Retz bequeathed to their retirement home the ninety acres located on S14W2078 Madison Street, Waukesha. Since the nineteenth century, this land has been used as a park and wildlife reserve.
Retzer Park is home to many species of birds such as woodpeckers, warblers, blue birds, finches, cardinals, and many others that live in the area. Although it still has only about forty acres, Retzer Nature Park has about one hundred thousand birds to see.
The park offers a picnic facility on the south end of the park, a playground for children, and a tennis court on the north side of the park. The southern portion of the park includes two large picnic areas and a playground area where you can play sports such as tennis or basketball. Other activities include hiking, fishing, swimming, and biking.
The nature center features different kinds of exhibits and programs for visitors to view. One such exhibit is the Nature Showcase. This exhibit includes various types of animals including birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, insects, and amphibians. Each of these animals are shown in a natural habitat that they are native to and provide information on why they are native to that specific area.
Another exhibit located in the park is the Family Fun Zone, which features several different games, slides, and rides that children of all ages can enjoy. In addition, it also includes a picnic area, and a playground area for little children.
Children will enjoy playing sports such as baseball and softball, and other activities that are offered inside of the park. They can also see the different animals that live in the area that are friendly and take care of them, such as chickens, cows, horses, and even birds.
Some of the animals that you may find in the Retzer Nature Center are rabbits, deer, coyotes, foxes, squirrels, and even a penguin that was brought to the park to help the residents. When you are not able to spend your time in the park, you can visit the neighboring hotels that are near the park to view the wildlife from your hotel windows.
